Decluttering for a tidy mind…
Why I threw my fridge magnet away!
What did it say? – “A Tidy House is the sign of a wasted life”
I used to have a sign in the loo (you know where all the tacky stuff lives – well used to anyway) that said that too.
Well not anymore.
The reason I threw it away is because clutter no longer serves me. Not being able to just live because I was spending all my time clearing up – ALL THE TIME!!!
I couldn’t just whip the hoover round, or dust the tv, or make something with the kids, or prepare dinner easily, or make the bed…you get the picture…because there was STUFF literally everywhere!
During journey to where I am today, I was in a group learning about the Law of Attraction and we did a decluttering challenge Since then, my awareness and attitude towards clutter and having things that no longer serve me has changed hugely.
By clearing away the un-needed or un-wanted, we allow ourselves not only to live in the now, but we also create space for the new, exciting and needed.
Having a nicer space
I am not a minimalist by any stretch of the imagination, I just have a much nicer space to enjoy being in and being completely honest it keeps my mind an awful lot more clutter free too. I can sit and work, read, play games, do craft, cook a meal, just get into bed of a night without a mountain of unneeded, unwanted, unnecessary everything getting in the way!
I’ve also shared this with the family, simple tasks like putting your shoes away when you get home – it takes just a few seconds – means no more tripping over the shoe mountain at the bottom of the stairs and not looking at pile of muddy footwear whilst trying to enjoy your dinner.
It really makes a difference, I promise!
It may seem hard/odd/time consuming at first, any new routine or change can take time to adjust to but once you start enjoying the benefits of a tidy home you’ll not want to be a clutter bug again!
Start small, if you overwhelm yourself you won’t get anywhere, try decluttering a draw, a handbag, the car park tickets out of your car, 10 emails, or 10 screenshots in your phone that you don’t need. I also decluttered my desk recently and found a £10 note!
Clearing out for a tidy mind can also lead to clearing out old for the new. When we are no longer held under the weight of the un-needed, in turn we create space for ourselves, allowing new thoughts, new experiences, new treasures. Instead of remaining in a place that creates unhappiness, doubt, fear, we create a place that creates abundance, joy, freedom and happiness.
I’d love to hear how you get on; Where did you start? What did you find? What are you making way for?
How can I do this too?
I cover ways on how you can declutter your mind and home in my workshops and programme, why not check them out at www.lizchaney.co.uk
