Feeling the Fear…
I want to talk today about fear. It’s a scary word isn’t it?
Fear of showing up, not belonging, standing up for what you believe to be true, going against the masses and the popular opinion, being the change maker in your family, losing generational habits, beliefs, or traditions, being the one to say enough I’m not doing that anymore, starting something new, being a pioneer, thinking outside the box, being in judgment or judged, succeeding, failure, being just you, being left out, being ostracized for who you are.
Fear is a powerful word
Fear is such a powerful word and we sometimes fear fear itself! The feelings that it evokes for us. We’re scared to stand up against it, we’re scared to say I’m not going to let you make me feel that way.
On the other hand though, fear can be good as it protects us and stops us from going to situations that may cause us harm, but sometimes fear is something we need to overcome.
It can be the moment where we’re on the cusp of a breakthrough, or about to experience greater things, but we fear change immensely and then it stops us in our paths, no matter how awesome the path ahead may actually be.
We all have a comfort zone.
We all have a comfort zone and want to stay in its safety, where no one can hurt us, where no one can make us feel uncomfortable. We fear what we don’t know, that if we change our circumstance, we may jump from the frying pan to the fire, the devil you know – there’s all kinds of sayings that keep us in our happy little place of safety. Those who are prepared to stand against fear when we believe strongly that fear can be our friend, can help us to make change and that yes whatever that next step may be.
It may be scary but if we can see fear as our friend, we can change our world beyond our wildest imagination! Even that can be scary too hey, we can fear our imagination and the fact that we dare to dream. We can fear creativity because it makes us feel uncomfortable. It’s scary to think what might be possible, what we could be capable, of what we may be able to achieve.
If we let fear control us…
If we let it control us, how can we face each day head on? How can we take how we feel and change it to excitement and creativity. Turn it into joy and strength?
Can we break down the barriers of possibility and make it comfortable? Even turn it on it’s head and say “We see you fear”, “We hear you, We know you’re there, but let’s do this together, let’s go hand in hand and be fearful of what we might NOT create”.
Let’s not be fearful of the opportunity itself, Let’s make fear our friend and let’s make it something that we acknowledge, but that we don’t let it control us.
Let’s make fear our frenemy
Let’s make fear our frenemy and see just how powerful we can be if we work together, because we CAN be powerful, we CAN be strong. We ARE amazing, we are all those things that fear tells that we cannot be.
