Review, Release, Refresh
An alternative to the New Years Resolution
How have you found the Christmas break?
Have you rested? Partied? Been true to what you really want?
As we say goodbye to 2023, it’s a great time to pause, Review, Release and Refresh.
If you’ve been in my world a while you’ll know I like my reset to be in the Spring, at the new birth in the cycle of nature, or even around the moon cycles, however as we draw to a close in the current year, and begin a new turn around the calendar, the world is on repeat of “new beginnings”, “get fit”, “lose weight”, “find a new job” and all the “shoulds” we feel beholden to achieve.
My message to you before you jump on the next fad because you feel you should and everyone else is doing it, is to – and I will always remind you of this! – be kind to yourself and feel into what is right for YOU.
I felt a calling to write this to you to give guidance, another perspective, a quiet word, that it’s ok not to get swept up in all the things and then beat yourself up or feel like a failure because you didn’t stick to it or couldn’t do it.
If you still feel that something has to change but you’re not sure what then this is a no pressure, alternative way to think about what you REALLY might feel/like to do/need as you move into a new year.
Find yourself a notebook (you can use your journal – (you could of course use mine – no harm in a small mention hey!, link in footer!), a pen, and you could do this on your own or with a partner, or family, whatever feels right for you.
Review
Thinking back over the last year, review what has happened, how you’ve felt, what filled your heart with joy and what you never want to repeat again. You could use your diary, the pictures you’ve taken, things you’ve bought to help you remember. You may even be surprised of how many wonderful things you’d forgotten or what you want to “put in room 101”!!
Release
Of all those things, what either no longer serves you or do you simply never want to happen again? Then it’s time to let them go, and release them. Holding onto the fear, the judgement, the anger, the sadness won’t help you to move on or feel the joy in your life. Do however acknowledge how it feels about those things and know that emotions are not bad, they are how you feel about something. Supressing these emotions only allows part of your whole amazing self to flourish. Be ALL of you but know that it’s ok to let go when you need to.
I also wanted to write about the flip side to these emotions – joy, happiness, love, laughter- which didn’t really fit into release, however recently I’ve had repeated conversations with wonderful women who felt they couldn’t release the fear, anger or sadness side of their emotions for fear of judgement and that in turn meant they couldn’t be truly honest with themselves and their true happiness and the joy they wished to feel just didn’t then shine through. So they all go hand in hand and when we understand ourselves and are kind to all the parts of us, we can celebrate and live our best life.
Refresh
So now you know the good, the not so good and the sometimes ugly bits, how you feel about them, what you can release and how to then be true to your best self, you can refresh what you do, how you feel, your boundaries, your passions, your dreams and all the wonderful experiences you can go forward and have – that you deserve to have – and be comfortable with who YOU really are and you really are amazing.
And you don’t have to know what they all are right now, as the year progresses and each new day dawns, so your feelings, experiences and needs will change with you.
I like to carry a word of the year forward with me, rather than any new years resolutions.
Previously I’ve had Expansion, Focus, Action and I’m still mulling over my word for 2024. I’ll keep you posted on that!
I would love to hear your thoughts and your experiences, please do get in touch with me, via email liz@lizchaney.co.uk, via the comments or DMs in our wonderful group Empowered, Awakening, Women or is you see me locally.
Feeling impassioned about wanting to find you own new pathway next year then the “From Lost to Loving Programme” is just what you need for your very own review, release and refresh for 2024.
Please do ask any questions.
With Love and Light,
Liz x
