The Multi-Tasking Myth in Motherhood
I used to pride myself that I was a multi-tasking mother, juggling the children, my business, all the things that needed doing in the house.
Now I pride myself in the fact that I don’t.
Why is it that we wear doing all the things at once, like a badge of honour?
When on earth was it healthy, practical, or rewarding to burn yourself into the ground?
You can run around like a headless chicken being everything to everyone, doing all the things but not doing them well, exhaust ourselves, head for burnout, resent our life and quite frankly, have a pretty miserable existence.
OR
You can choose a different path and be:
– Calm, peaceful, and happy,
– Healthy, enjoying our day, and having space for ourselves,
– Able to SHARE the daily “things” (we all need to eat, have a clean(ish) environment, clean clothes, go places, do stuff etc).
Yet for some reason, the first option gets praise, a well done, a “you’re incredible” or a “I don’t know how you do it all”.
Let’s get honest here, you can do it all but do you really have to, or want to? Why do we continually put pressure and stress on ourselves ?
Breaking Free from Outdated Notions
Many of us have been been brought up with an outdated notion of what we “should” be, do or have.
These expectations (whether placed upon us or placed upon ourselves) can leave us feeling unseen, unheard and unappreciated and I understand – I was there! That multi-tasking, do it all, people pleasing me was just like you, doing everything I thought I should.
But with the exhaustion, the resentment for my everyday life and then the final straw, the lack of joy, I knew it was time to change things. I didn’t know how, or what, but I knew it had to.
Embracing Change and Rediscovering Yourself
Taking even one small step towards making change, slowing down and Rediscovering YOU and what brings you Joy, creates a ripple effect that changes your life. It brings about a daily peace, it’s easier to do daily chores and you feel a sense of achievement – because you love and appreciate the feeling of calm that they bring when they’re done.
Having time for YOU, being able to press pause for a moment, being yourself and enjoying something that fulfills YOUR needs, allows you to smile through your everyday and be the best version of you to share with others in your life.
You could start with:
- Self-Care: Take time each day to do something for YOU, that brings you Joy
- Share or delegate tasks within the day and get the whole family involved in daily life
- Set boundaries for yourself and learn to say no to what no longer serves you or your family
Creating a life of Joy, Purpose and Soulful Fulfillment
You CAN become the best version of you with some self-love, appreciation and simply slowing down and being in the moment.
You CAN be accomplished, successful, have a happy, healthy every day and not take on the burden of doing everything at once.
Let go of the Multi-Tasking Myth and let’s change the thinking. It’s time to create a new reality, one of a prosperous happiness, born of self-love. It’s time to move into a higher level of consciousness where pride comes not from burning ourselves into ashes but from creating a flame of passion and embracing JOY in our EVERY day.
Will you let go and bust the multi-tasking myth of Motherhood?
